AppSettings Per Assembly Config Implementation

Thursday, October 28, 2004 11:00:00 PM (Central Standard Time, UTC-06:00)
Mike Woodring has an implementation for AppSettings related to an assembly here.  With Visual Studio .NET you can mimic the same behavior as the app.config (building and renaming of the config to the bin directory) by using a post build event:

copy $(ProjectDir)dll.config $(TargetPath).config

This event takes your dll.config and copies it to the bin directory of the build.

Sunday, October 24, 2004 11:00:00 PM (Central Standard Time, UTC-06:00)
SQL Server 2005 Developer Webcasts will begin running on December 6th.

Initially there will be a week of 15 WebCasts introducing all the new features of SQL Server 2005 for Developers.

Starting in January, Microsoft will be doing at least 1 web cast per week focused on specific developer topics for SQL Server 2005.

Everyone who attends a WebCast will receive a copy of the Beta 2 Resource Kit and the Beta 3 Resource Kit when it ships. Also, the first 1500 people that watch 5 or more WebCasts will also receive a special, limited edition SQL Server 2005 WebCast T-shirt. Additionally, all WebCast viewers will be entered into a competition to win an XBOX, one for each day of the week.

Site Upgrade

Friday, October 22, 2004 11:00:00 PM (Central Standard Time, UTC-06:00)
Ordered a computer from Dell yesterday.  Dimension XPS Generation 3, 3.2GHz, 1g ram, 80gig 10,000rpm drive and a couple of other things.  I was running the blog on an old Dell Dimension 266 with 384 meg of ram.  The site was terribly slow. I upgraded it with an existing box that I was using for playing around with beta software (Gateway Profile 2.6 GHz with 1gig of ram). The site actually comes up pretty quick now.

SharePoint 2003 - WSS Site Map

Saturday, October 16, 2004 11:00:00 PM (Central Standard Time, UTC-06:00)
I spent some time earlier this year working on a large SharePoint site.  One of the things that I became pretty frustrated with was the navigation experience for SharePoint administration.  I came up with this Mind Map that shows the layout (for WSS only).  I decided to share it with people to verify its accuracy and get feedback on it.

Finally back after…

Thursday, October 14, 2004 11:00:00 PM (Central Standard Time, UTC-06:00)
a long summer.  A lot has happened the last six months.  I finished (actually nearly finished) my basement.  I left BORN in July to become self employed as an independent consultant, and have been billing an average of 60 hours a week.  I am working on a pretty interesting project for a large insurance company, dealing with SOA and BizTalk 2004.  I also have been working on a white paper for the Microsoft Architecture Advisory Board, addressing the architecture of Smart Clients.

I just finished an InfoPath form for writing dasBlog entries off-line (using it right now).  InfoPath has a pretty good rich text editor, and works pretty well for composing entries (can't live with out the Word like integrated spell check).  Plus I wanted to play a bit with the Office 2003 Service Pack 1 that was released a while back with dramatic InfoPath improvements.  Over the next couple of weeks I am going to put together a service that will submit the blog entries once you are connected again.
